We are saddened to learn of the death of Dorothy Heartwell, 74, of Fairgrove, Michigan on Sunday, October 22 from congestive heart failure. Mrs. Heartwell was the mother of Darren Heartwell, a contributor to The Puller magazine.
A 1961 graduate of Saginaw High School, Mrs. Heartwell worked at Kresge's in Saginaw for over 20 years as a salesperson and bookkeeper. She then was hired as Laetham's Equipment's bookkeeper and worked there until her retirement in 1996. An active member of Christ Lutheran Church in Reese, Michigan, Mrs. Heartwell was a fan of tractor pulling and the Detroit Tigers and enjoyed crocheting and other crafts. She will be remembered by her loved ones for her faith and positive attitude, years ago having fought through two brain tumor surgeries and radiation.
Besides her husband Dean and Darren and his wife Alicia, Mrs. Heartwell is survived by her sister, Sally Hetzner, her brother-in-law, Richard Rice, and many nieces, nephews, grandnieces, and grandnephews. Her full obituary may be found here.
Visitation for family and friends will take place at the Ware-Smith-Woolever Funeral Home, 9940 Saginaw Street, Reese, Michigan 48757 on Thursday, October 26 from 2 to 8 p.m. and at Christ Lutheran Church, 1946 South Reese on Friday beginning at 10 a.m. Mrs. Heartwell's funeral service will be on Friday at 11 a.m. Those planning an expression of sympathy are asked to consider the Christ Lutheran Church.
