The WPI/NTPA office has recently been informed of the passing on Tuesday, July 16 of Nola Skaar, 80, of Cottage Grove, Wisconsin following a courageous battle with cancer. Mrs. Skaar served the Wisconsin Tractor Pullers Association as its Secretary and Treasurer for two decades as part of her 50-plus-year involvement in the motorsport. She was also the mother of Nick Skaar, driver of the "Screamin' Norwegian" Super Farm in state and national competition.
Alongside her husband Jim and son (also known as Neli), Nola farmed for three quarters of her life, working in both the fields and the office of the family business. She formed many lifelong friendships from both her relationships to tobacco farming and pulling and enjoyed being a "second mother" to many.
In addition to Jim and Neli, Mrs. Skaar is survived by daughter Jami (Todd) Moe; granddaughters Kaia and Brita Moe; brother Arlyn (Mary Onsrud) Waag; sister Micky Waag; sisters-in-law Jean Waag, Mia Martin, and Dorothy Skaar; brother-in-law Duane Skaar; several nieces and nephews; and special friends Justin and Damien Johnson and J. Bird Schmidt. Her complete obituary may be found here, and you are invited to view and post tributes to Mrs. Skaar at that website.
A Celebration of Life will be held for Mrs. Skaar's family and friends on Sunday, July 28 from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. at Nora's Tavern, 1843 U.S. 12/18 in Deerfield, Wisconsin. Memorial contributions in Mrs. Skaar's name may be made to the University of Wisconsin Carbone Cancer Center.
Our sympathies are with the Skaar family in their time of grief and remembrance.
