Ricky Rose (Glencoe, Minnesota)
2017 NTPA Grand National Modified Champion
Worthington, Ohio---It started with a convincing 10' win in Ellsworth, but you could forgive Ricky Rose if he wasn't thinking "championship" that night. After all, his own Power Pull Nationals event in Hutchinson, with all the attendant preparations, was just six days away. But when the Modifieds' schedule resumed in Tomah, his "Giddy Up" twice finished second to the "Money Maker" of reigning champ Bret Berg (-15), and the march to a title began in earnest. Wins two weeks later in Rockwell and a month after that in Monroe got him out to a solid lead, and a sweep in Bowling Green made it comfortable. He and Berg played to a draw in Sandwich's two Tractor Day sessions with a first and a second apiece, in the process earning Rose his first Grand National title. Bob Jostock's "Wild Child" (-35) edged out Dennis Christensen's "Pack Rat 4" (-36) for third place, while the Jostock-prepared "Spook Gone Wild" piloted by Bill Douglas Jr. (-41) captured fifth.
