Worthington, Ohio---Randy Petro of Camden, Ohio started his pulling career in Four Wheel Drive, competed extensively in Modified, and even dabbled in the Mini division for a bit. But the Petros know what they do best: Win championships in Two Wheel Drive.
After finishing second the last two seasons to son and seven-time champion Jessie by a combined six points, Petro claimed his fifth title (2011, 2010, 2001, 1995) in the wheelstanders' class with "Kathy's Komplaint" by 10 over Sean and Trevor Blagrave's "Wild Horse." Jessie's "Buckeye Hauler," winner of six consecutive titles entering this year, finished third, while Bryan McDonald's "Suffering Sanity" was fourth, and Craig Corzine's "Burn Notice" was fifth. All five will participate in the 32nd Enderle Memmorial Pull-Off at the Champaign County Fairgrounds in Urbana, Ohio on Saturday, September 15.
Randy's lone win on the year came as the last hook of a 45-truck class at Tomah, Wisconsin, and his low water mark---a 22-point 10th place in Waverly, Iowa---arrived with less than a month to go in the season. But he rebounded for a pair of second-place finishes in Bowling Green, Ohio to earn that event's coveted championship ring. The performance also established a lead when Jessie finished 31st among 50 on Saturday night, and the advantage became insurmountable by either the Blagraves or the younger Petro when Greenville, Ohio rained out the following Tuesday.
Jessie won his first championship with "2 Timin'" in 2009, a year after current Unlimited competitor Chuck Knapp claimed the division with "Back Forty." Either father or son has won each title since to dominate the division for a full decade and run Petro Motorsports' total to 12. The Nation family---father L.D. and sons Brent and Craig---combined to win seven Two Wheel Drive crowns dating to L.D.'s 1989 title at 5,800 lbs.
