With the implications of the coronavirus pandemic and economic slowdown still unfolding, the St. Joseph County 4-H Fair in South Bend, Indiana will not be held this year. Accordingly, the fair’s Regional National event, originally scheduled for Wednesday and Thursday, July 8-9, has been cancelled and will not be conducted in 2020.
Next year's tentative dates for the NTPA event in South Bend are July 7-8.
The fair announced that the 4-H will be conducting virtual exhibits of their projects but that there will be no on-site activities in the fairground’s buildings, barns, concession and midway areas.
The following is a portion of the St. Joseph County Fair’s release of Wednesday, May 20:
With the best interest and safety of our St. Joseph County 4-H members, who have endured so much loss in recent months, the St. Joseph County Fair Board made the heart-wrenching decision to cancel an in-person fair for 2020. ... Given the [Indiana state government]’s strict rules, we have determined that it is not financially or logistically feasible to safely host an in-person fair this year. ...Please know, this decision did not come lightly. This is the most emotionally difficult decision the Fair Board has ever had to make. We look forward to being together in person again in 2021, and plan to come back stronger than ever.
