Jody and Colin Ross (Waynesburg, Pennsylvania)
2017 NTPA Grand National Super Stock Diesel Champions
Worthington, Ohio---Colin Ross was looking at gauges, wisps of smoke, and the 100' marker ahead of him when dad Jody climbed the left step of their "Triple Bypass" McCormick. The son had just aborted his first attempt at a division-clinching run hours after he had overtaken Travis Schlabach's wounded "Bone Twister" by a single point in the standings in the afternoon session at Sandwich. Schlabach would have to scratch from the evening session, but a challenge remained: the Blagrave Brothers' "Red Horse" had won the earlier class to move into a tie for second. Adding to the drama, Stan Blagrave had dropped his test hook on which he ran out of bounds. Well, whatever was exchanged between the elder and younger Rosses, man and machine responded with a gritty, fiery run to 316'. Six hooks later, Stan Blagrave did what he could in piloting "Red Horse" to 319' and its second victory of the day. But no one finished between them, and the tiebreaker favored the Rosses, six wins to five. Schlabach's scratch landed him in third, 15 points behind the leaders, while Hoosiers Steve Burge ("Lock-N-Load," -41) and Kent Payne ("Super Rooster," -46), completed the list of Enderle Pull-Off invitees.
