We are saddened to learn of the passing in the early morning hours of Sunday, August 11 of Marlys Phipps, 81, of Ames, Iowa. Mrs. Phipps was the mother of NTPA tech official Harold Phipps.
Born in Minnesota, Mrs. Phipps and her family moved to Los Angeles in her youth, where she met and married Donald Phipps. The couple relocated to Iowa shortly afterward and started their trucking business, Refrigerated Transport, for which Mrs. Phipps was an over-the-road driver and bookkeeper. She and Donald enjoyed camping, and she was active in her church.
Surviving are Donald, Harold and his wife Dawn, as well as a daughter Janine (Jon) Seibert; grandchildren Courtney (Jimmy) Edwards, Colin (Samantha) Seibert, and Andy (Brookly) Gerleman; and great grandchildren Harmony, Ava, and Zoe Gerleman. Visitation for Mrs. Phipps' family and friends is scheduled for Thursday, August 15 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Heartland Baptist Church, 3333 Stange Road, Ames, Iowa 50010. Her memorial service will be Friday at 2 p.m. at the church..
